Recession? Not at Kane County Flea Market
A national recession? Financial analysts can't agree. Widespread layoffs and hard times? For many, definitely. But from the look of the crowd Saturday at the Kane County Flea Market, people are still searching for a bargain. Cars streamed into the parking lot a half-hour before the flea market opened at noon at the Kane County Fairgrounds in St. Charles. The remote lots we...

Colorizing B&W films: Cool or catastrophe? Cool
Colorizing old black-and-white movies is a great thing. I was in favor it back in the days when Jimmy Stewart testified before Congress, arguing that colorizing his early BW masterpieces such as "It's a Wonderful Life" made him sick. Siskel & Ebert waged war against the early process, roughly eq...
Colorizing B&W films: Cool or catastrophe? Catastrophe
I can understand tweaking the classics, like U2 releasing remixes of "War," "Boy" and "October." If an artist wants to spruce of his or her works and give it to the public again, horray for them. But colorizing classic B&W films is an abomination!
Alfred Hitchcock shot his films in spook...

FROM THE POLITICS BOARDS
bush's conscience
i really wonder to what degree george realizes how badly he's screwed us, deluxe, in 8 short yrs. i wonder how much remorse, if any, that he has for selling our ass out. if i were him, i wouldn't even be able to sleep at night, yet he keeps chuckling and making stupid jokes like it's no biggie. if there's a hell, i hope he and his cronies roast something fierce. i HATE how he and cheney, rummy and rove have driven this country right into the toilet. can anyone else have screwed this up any worse?? we had a pretty good thing going. now we're a joke.

FROM THE SPORTS BOARDS
bye bye seattle sonics
the city of seattle and the owners of the NBA sonics came to an out of court agreement. the team can break its lease 2 yrs early to move to oklahoma city but they pay the city of seattle $75 mil to do so. the sonics were seattle's first pro sports team and have been there 41 yrs. what a sad day for the NBA and i feel bad for seattle fans (i lived there in '98). between this and the ref scandal, commissioner david stern needs to step down.
